“But I am just a student, what can I do?”

Have you ever belittled yourself because you are just a student who do not have any income?

My answer is yes. It turned out that I often looked down on myself without any equitable reason. It is ironic, how I formed my perception towards my own self that made me got discouraged.

I thought that being a student means to get locked in a prison called ‘school’ that makes us read textbooks without our own will and consent. Our horizons are trapped by some uninteresting common textbooks and our movements are limited to walls and school gate.

I do not have an income. I do not have any skills to work either. So what is the purpose of being a student when we cannot produce money by being one? When we graduated, it is not like we can make money right away. We have to look for any jobs available. And after we got accepted, we will receive some sort of training from the office or any workplace before we really get into our job. So why do we have to wait for twelve years of ‘primary education’ before get into those complications? Why do we have to wait that long when we can just do the training far ahead and make money right away?

Because the workplaces are loaded and there are still unemployed people out there that should fill up the available jobs? Because being young means does not have enough experience? Well I must say. They stopped us from having the opportunity to experience more by putting us in a classroom, and giving us the same treatment while each of us are different. (Or maybe this does not apply for some).

But that is completely a wrong idea. First of all, we are human. We just feel that way because something comes out too hard to deal with and we are too tired to face anything that might come ahead.

Underestimation could come from ourselves. It will be very painful since you cannot not care about what you think. Because it might be appeared uninvited. Despite of that, being a student is not something we cannot change in the meantime. Life is full of choices. Well I am a student, indeed. So what makes me better than others? And what makes me worse than others? Every person has the same value. Young or adult. Student or employee.

Being a student means being curious. Being a student means being attracted to innovations and modernity. Being a student means to accept changes and revolutions. And how does that decrease student’s value from being a part of community?

Students cannot be dictated by anybody. Otherwise, students are open minded spirits who still have plenty of time to experience failure and success. And by being open minded, students can be the first who believe in revolution and future technologies. Students never stop themselves from exploring new things that might be just a mere theory these days. Curiosity wakes the enthusiasm that leads us to find new discoveries. And students curios minds, drive them to know more.

Students create the future. Because students are the people who learn. They are considered the same, because they do not have income gap. Therefore, they learn how to work together and not too biased about economical status.

Students are powerful. Their voices matter because they are the people who learn everyday. It is true that students still shape their mind. But that do not mean that students cannot have voices to be heard. Students can be wrong, so do other people. But despite all of that, students are powerful enough to make changes.

Because students are the sources of hope for everyone.
